Berry Delicious!
Mixed Berry Pie
Crust: 2 1/2 c of pastry flour
9 tablespoons of cold butter cut into pieces
1/4 tsp of salt
1/8 teaspoons baking powder
6 tablespoons of cold water
Roll into two separate balls and refrigerate the dough for 45 minutes
Filling: 5-6 cups blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn starch
1 teaspoon finely grated orange peel
Bake for 1 hour

Saturday Night
Molly and JP invited us over for dinner. I was so excited to go because Molly has been busting out some really good food recently. She made BBQ tofu po'boys with a cabbage/carrot slaw to go on top. They were tangy and SO good. She served them with garlic brussel sprouts and ripple potato chips. It was exactly what I felt like eating. We always have a good time with them but this time was especially good. Adrian had a few zingers that sent me over the edge. The jokes are lost in translation but damn they were good. Their house makes me want to make art. Molly always has a million projects that she is working on and it's inspiring. That girl sure knows how to make her house a home. You should check out her blog here. I also think their cat is hilarious. He's cross-eyed and his name is Jack. Enough said.

Last night I went and saw A Single Man at the Castro theater. Every time I step into this place I am blown away by the ornate detailing and beautiful ceiling. The outside of the theater is definitely inspired by Baroque style and when I researched the design of the building I found out that it's outer facade was built in homage to the church or the basillica of Mission Dolores. I love this style of architecture. It is so romantic.
A Single Man was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Tom Ford is one of my favorite designers mostly for his design with YSL but also because of his men's line. Who doesn't love a man in a sharp suit? It is no wonder that his style translates onto the silver screen. His style is incorporated into every set and all over design of the movie. The costume design is one for the books. I want to give a solid review of this movie but I feel that I could not do justice to how beautiful it is. Also, I had no idea what was coming and felt this enhanced the experience. I give this movie and its lead man, Colin Firth, both an A+.

Rainy Day Sunday
I have recently been given a very nice crock pot from a customer at Fayes. He and I like to exchange recipes and ideas in general about various foods. I told him that my recent cooking goal was to learn how to make a good pot roast. He left and came straight back with a big crock pot that he never uses and is almost brand new and gave it to me. So awesome! It got me really inspired to start cooking.
Pot roast is one of those meals that reminds me of delcious family dinners from my childhood. That was back when Mom and Dad did all the cooking and I thought everyone just whips up some pot roast on a Sunday evening. I now know that cooking requires lots of time, patience, and practice. I decided when I left work today that I would deflower my new crock pot and cook myself a pot roast. When I say myself I mean I was going to prepare an entire roast dinner and not invite anyone over so I could do a test run before subjucting people to some not so delicious beefiness. Not the best idea for my wallet but what the hell. I had a plan. If the roast turned out to be tasty I would invite my good pal and best neighbor, Sarah, over. It was a success! Sarah came and brought some asparagus and zucchini that was the perfect compliment to the meal. I cooked the beef in onions, garlic, salt&pepper, seasoning, and butter. I added potatoes and these really pretty, purple carrots. I left the house for 4 hours and let it all simmer. It was crazy good. Thank you, Chuck, for an awesome new edition to my kitchen!
